"A people's guide"
In 2012 Laura Barraclough, Wendy Cheng, and myself published, A People’s Guide to Los Angeles (University of California). The Guide is a radical tourbook that highlights sites of racial, class, gender, and environmental struggle in Los Angeles County’s history and landscape. The University of California Press has since commissioned A People’s Guide series. Our goal is to have People’s Guides developed for all the major cities of the world. Currently, teams are working on Guides for numerous cities, including Atlanta, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Orange County, Portland, the San Francisco Bay area, and others. We are also working on translating A People’s Guide into other formats and should soon have a website. In addition to featuring all the cities in the series, the website will include digital projects for smaller cities.
